A niche is better than no niche

A niche is better than no niche

If you are struggling to pick your niche, or are feeling torn between different options, this article is for you!

It makes sense. This is our consulting business we are starting and we want everything to be perfectly in place. We want the perfect niche, the perfect message, the perfect solution, and it can be frustrating getting paused from moving forward with the course content because we cannot pick a niche. Picking a niche should be simple right? It often feels that way and that is why we get frustrated when it becomes difficult to choose a niche. The truth is, perfect does not exist. If we cannot accept that from the start, then it will be very difficult for us to move forward.

The truth of the matter is that when we do not have a niche, we have nobody to talk to, nobody to conduct strategy sessions with, and nobody to help. If we have a niche, then we have a 100% better chance of landing clients than having no niche. This doesn't mean we should feel pressured to pick quickly from the fear of never getting any clients. It just means that the large amount of energy and time that is used up trying to pick a niche, can be better served trying to land clients. Here are a couple things to think about to help you pick a niche and get rolling:

  • Zig-Zag

Like we discussed before, having a niche increases our chances of landing clients than having no niche. Is it really the worst thing in the world if we pick a niche, start generating strategy session, landing clients, and then as time goes on our niche forms into something a little different then when we started? We may start out providing new/updated websites for clients in the beginning and then as we start building the sites, our clients need traffic driven to them, so we start offering digital marketing services. But, if we never had the original niche, we would have never landed into the new one.

  • Take Imperfect Action

Learning to accept the fact we do not need perfection to help people solve their problems is powerful. At the end of the day, it is not about us, it is about the clients and helping them solve their problems. Zig-zag until you find your perfect niche, talk to prospects, generate strategy sessions, and land clients. It does not have to be perfect.

A boat that never leaves the dock has a 0% chance of reaching any kind of destination. A boat that starts traveling through the waters may stop at an island and stay there forever, or overtime will reach another destination. The opportunity to find and explore new islands only occurred because the boat left the dock.

Be the boat who leaves the dock to explore.
